Darn-Good Day

Today was an amazing day.  For one, two of my four college classes were cancelled.  Two, I got to do some "bonding" with my baby cousin, Cassidy.  Three, I finally stood up for my beliefs in school!

Cassy's such a fun little Rugrat!!  We went for a walk in the woods behind her house in Wales.  Cass, only 1 1/2yrs-old, can only point and scream when she she's something interesting or something she wants.  Boy, was there a lot of screaming (but the good kind)!  We hiked through the woods to the pipeline, and had a seat on the ground.  Now, anything on the ground, Cassidy will pick up, smell, and then throw when she gets bored with it.  She did this with leaves, dirt, sticks, and rocks.  I showed her that throwing one rock at a bigger rock in the ground makes a loud noise.  She that this was the funniest thing ever!  Cass would throw the rock, then point and go "dah!" meaning "Fetch, slave!"  This went on for a good 5 minutes.  Each time she'd laugh hysterically and throw the rock again.  After that, we went over to explore a knocked-down tree.  I put my cousin on the log to walk, but she was too afraid and just hugged me instead.  I showed her that she was safe and I wouldn't let her fall and it became a game.  I'd pretend to let go and let her fall, then catch her right away. She freaked out!  I don't think I've ever seen a kid laugh so much before.  And every time her hat would fall off, she'd go "Uh-oh!"  Later, I carried her back to the trail and put her down while I played fetch with Annie, the dog, for a little bit.  Then we headed back down towards the house.  It was cute because she had to hold both my hands and wouldn't let go while she ran down the trail, screaming her battle-cry "Gaaaaaahhhh!!"  We played on the swing and tire-swing for a bit and then went back inside to relax and watch some old-school Sesame Street until my Uncle, Cassidy's Dad, got home.  I then headed home, had a nap and drove back to school for my evening class.

I'm in a Political English class and I HATE it.  I don't like my teacher, I don't like her arrogant view on things, and I don't like her bashing my religion pretty much every single class.  Up until tonight, I've just clenched my fists, gritted my teeth and forced myself to not go up and hit her while we listened to her portray the LDS religion the way she saw it.  Tonight we ended up in the computer lab and I heard one of my classmates go up to the teacher/professor (whatever you want to call it) and ask about the Mormon religion.  I couldn't take it anymore.  So I walked up to him, introduced myself as being a member of the church, answered some questions he and another classmate had, and showed him how to find accurate information about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  My teacher sat there just looking dumbfounded and stupidly re-enforced what I had said about going directly to the source for information about a topic they were researching.

So all-in-all, it was a pretty darn good day today.  I finally got some free time to play with my amazing little cousin (who's going to grow up to be a soccer star), and I finally stood up for what I believe in and got my professor to shut her big annoying ignorant yap!  Now to see what tomorrow holds in store.  Tomorrow is a new day; a new opportunity to be thankful for what I have and find the good in everything that I do and everything that comes at me.  B-)
